Summer has finally arrived at our abode in Grand Pre, Nova Scotia, Canada. Today was spectacular. I have been rising with the sun, which means I often require a nap in the middle of the afternoon. The evenings are long and leisurely this far North during the month of June.  The rosy fingers of dawn show up at 5:30 AM and it stays light until 9PM.  In Hong Kong the days and nights didn’t vary much during the year, but here in Canada the difference is dramatic.

In June I get a little manic, sleeping fitfully, drinking too much coffee and taking on too many tasks, spending too much money. Enjoy the second of my early posts, a short one. The koala was literally hanging out at Hanging Rock.

Down Under

KoalaYesterday was Australia Day, the day that Governor Phillip took formal possession of the colony of New South Wales in 1788. There were plenty of festivities on hand here in Melbourne, of course, but we decided to take the suggestion of an Israeli guest and go see Hanging Rock. It is to the north of us, about an hour by car. I have a little Hyundai for the weekend, which seems like a toy compared to most of those built in the USA, but it was able to keep up at the speeds people drive here. Once we slipped out of the suburbs, the landscape began to resemble what I imagined Australia to be– vast tan expanses of tan dotted with pale green trees. It is Spring in Grand Pre, Nova Scotia, Canada, where yours truly has settled in for a couple of months. Time to renew my work on the old Stewart house and enjoy the long, long days of summer. The fact that it is raining and chilly at the moment does not dampen my enthusiasm.

It seems that this blog’s raison d’être has exhausted its intent, especially since the peripatetic prof and I are going to be in Canada for awhile. I have decided to go through eight years worth of material and pull out the best ones, starting with this one, a re-post of a re-post. I’ll be doing one a week until I run out of good stuff. Enjoy.

Down Under

We have settled into a dull routine here, I’m afraid. Even though the tax work is done, my good wife has conscripted me to help with the book she is under deadline to complete by the end of the month. I have been looking for something new to blog about and it occurred to me that I have accumulated a lifetime (seven years) of material, so it may be time to start plagiarising myself. All the best writers do. Spring has sprung here in Melbourne and I have written about that before. At this time of year we see almost every kind of weather, from sun to rain, clouds and clear skies, all in the same day. Today is quite spectacular.
